Someone who made a difference.

Simon's reach went far beyond Sheffield and the ground-breaking work he did at SOHAS. He strongly influenced the work of the TUC on occupational cancers and his research, particularly into bladder cancer, was used by the TUC in its work on the Industrial Injuries Advisory Council. Only last year, well after his diagnosis of mesothelioma, he came to speak to a meeting of union health and safety officers about the need for a database of workplace cancers to help identify new or unrecognised ones. I hope that the work that we do on the prevention of occupational cancers will be, in part, a lasting legacy to the work of this remarkable man. Hugh Robertson, TUC.
